Anyone writing that Shargunov was a bad choice for the top three understands nothing. The guy is a walking firestarter. The first time I realized he had a big future ahead of him was after the following episode: We, YABLOKO (a Russian liberal political party), were organizing a rally against United Russia. Right across from their office in Banny Lane. I was the emcee. Everything was pretty standard: blah-blah corruption, blah-blah election fraud, blah-blah CPSU. Then shargunov walks up. Wearing some outrageously provocative beaver coat. "Let me speak," he says. I hand him the microphone. The guy opens with: "The big-titted, big-assed women sitting in that building..." and just keeps going in that vein. I was completely captivated. After that rally, I realized Seryoga was seriously impressive. And I always knew that wherever you invite him—whether to "DaDebaty" or to "Fight Club"—he'll set the place on fire. He and Zhirik (Vladimir Zhirinovsky) are the only two "legal" politicians who will make the pre-election party TV debates worth watching. Shargunov is going to tear United Russia apart. He'll be especially good up against those United Russia weirdos who love to drone on about how "we're the party of action, we built a road, we'll develop the Northern Urals." All in all, Mironov turned out to be a much less pathetic creature than YABLOKO and SPS.
