I don’t get all this hype around Bukovsky. Or, really, all the opposition fuss over the presidential election. It’s obvious enough that Bukovsky 1) hasn’t lived in Russia for the past ten years, and 2) is a British citizen (literally, “a Turkish subject” — an ironic old-fashioned expression) and holds a UK passport. So there’s no way he’ll be registered. Not to mention that he doesn’t have the money to collect signatures. Nemtsov is the same story. No money for signatures. So why even run? Just to crow about it, and then look for an excuse to withdraw in favor of Kasyanov? Kasyanych (a familiar nickname for Mikhail Kasyanov) is the only consistently serious guy. Sure, he has plenty of drawbacks, but he entered politics saying he would run for president, and he’s sticking to that line. He’s the only one who’ll actually make it to the signature-collection stage. And our Gulyaev did the right thing too: he said he’d take part in The Other Russia’s primaries and, if he lost, he wouldn’t make a fuss and would support whoever everyone else backed. He came in second and turned out to be the only one behaving in line with the agreement. Glory to the PEOPLE! In ten minutes we’ll put up a poll on WebGolose: who’s better, Kasyanov, Nemtsov, or Bukovsky? Curious to take the measure of it.
