Yesterday, members of the Russian public were protesting a monument to Aliyev near the Baku cinema. I, by the way, am against the monument too, but that’s not the point. What I mean is artists as prophets. For example, this painting, made several years ago and which everyone has no doubt already seen, directly foretells: 1. The invasion of Orthodox land by hordes of heavily armed outsiders. 2. Aliyev’s arrival on that same Orthodox land. 3. Everyone who resists the invasion (obviously, the Orthodox people) is labeled an enemy.
