First, there is a strong feeling that no one was actually expelled after all. I saw some Academic Council decision online, but it contains no names. There is a letter of repentance from one of the participants, but apparently he was not expelled either. Is there even a single known case of a student who was expelled? Second, it is unclear what Moscow State University (MSU), the faculty, and the “dignity of the university” have to do with this at all. They staged their action off MSU grounds. The problem is that they were fighting over the successor to the bear cub in a public place—children could have been there by chance as well. So, in my view, the most appropriate outcome would have been an administrative court case and two days of detention for each participant. Third, talk about the “dignity of the university” and the “honor of the faculty” is simply laughable. Every fourth lecturer gives passing grades for $300, and 70% of students were admitted through bribes. If everyone knew that the MSU Faculty of Philosophy could only be entered “by passing the exams,” that would be the real honor of the faculty. evdovision wrote everything correctly.
