It’s amusing to observe how so-called "anti-fascist" and "anti-right-wing" creative output often turns out, in practice, to be purely xenophobic. The classic example here is, of course, the famous Izvestia articles with the refrain: "don’t go to the Russian March — the kikes organized it." But the nonconformists come out with gems too. Lately I’ve been listening in the car to an album by the youth pop-rock outfit Noise MC. Not a bad band, by the way. A very good one, actually. So, they have a song called "Skinhead Girl." Naturally, over the course of the song the girl is mocked in every possible way. The chorus goes something like: "skinhead girl shaved her head, but forgot to shave her mustache and wears old-fashioned family briefs." Here’s a verse which is apparently supposed to demonstrate the true patheticness of the skinhead girl. The verse is structured as a dialogue: the girl is asked questions, and she answers in a funny squeaky voice: Girl, why do you need such big boots? *- To stomp on rappers’ records with them! *- Aren’t they too hot for this time of year? *- Well, what can you do, it’s the fashion. And what the hell do you need that patch on your jacket for? *- So that rappers and churki (a Russian ethnic slur for people from the Caucasus and Central Asia) will be afraid of me! I see, girl — and what’s your name, then? - My name is Zulfiya Gubaidullina!
