People who surprised us. Last week, it was Sberbank and personally German Gref. Apparently, after seeing how I’d been tearing into them over the Skolkovo business school, they decided to go with the formula: “The one who gets in our way can be the one who helps us.” So they went ahead and put me on the committee for relations with minority shareholders:

At the beginning of March, I had a meeting with them about this, where I said I was willing to join, but warned them that my joining would only give me new grounds for complaints against them. Though I’m also ready for constructive work, blah blah. They said: OK, we’ll think about it. To be honest, I was sure there would be no committee with my participation. But then, last Friday, they produced a document signed as far back as March 18. That same Friday, the first meeting took place. So far everything is fairly positive; Danilov-Danilyan is sounding determined, saying we’re going to improve corporate governance, transparency, and so on. My initiatives are also being received quite well. In short, we’ll see what comes of it. P.S. Yes, and I promised there that I’d put out a call to the public. So here it is: Hey, good people, if any of you are Sber shareholders who are ready, hopeful, waiting, believing, interested, and willing to get involved, welcome. People from the regions are especially welcome.
