Parker wrote a good column: In Moscow, on Kutuzovsky Prospekt (a major avenue), there was a traffic accident. A Ferrari worth several hundred thousand dollars crashed into a parked Range Rover, which may not cost several hundred thousand, but it certainly costs at least a hundred thousand dollars. It soon emerged that the Ferrari was occupied by the 20-year-old children of top managers at one of Russia’s major banks. Shortly afterward, one of the parents arrived at the scene in a Maserati. That car, too, costs well over a hundred thousand dollars. In other words, the Russian government’s efforts were not in vain. The funds allocated to support the banking system reached exactly where they were supposed to. The carmaker was supported. Demand was stimulated. And the young people were not left alone to deal with their problems. full text
