On Newsru.com, the headline reads: One of the leaders of the Azerbaijani diaspora killed in Krasnoyarsk So I think: just another crime by the "Russian fascists." I open it and read: Since the late 1990s, two rival groups had been feuding in Krasnoyarsk—those of Rafik Mamedov and Aktai Akhmedov. They were fighting for control of business at Krasnoyarsk’s markets. In the course of these gang clashes, one of Mamedov’s six brothers was killed and two were wounded. Akhmedov was killed with automatic gunfire in 2003. In 2001, Mamedov was sentenced by the regional court to 23 years in prison for illegal weapons possession, banditry, and conspiracy to commit murder. ***Why not just give this news item a simple, short title: "Out-of-control Azerbaijani crooks, thieves, and bandits, who for some reason dragged themselves here to Krasnoyarsk, shoot each other, steal, and rob, making it impossible for decent citizens to live in peace. They ought to hurry up and go back to Azerbaijan." That would be a more accurate headline, it seems to me. And one more thing: did representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Krasnoyarsk really consider this Rafik Mamedov a "leader of the diaspora"? A fine description of the diaspora as a whole.
