Jewish citizens and sympathizers, please help me with some information. For my birthday, I’m planning to take advantage of visa-free entry to Israel and make a quick two-day trip to Jerusalem. I’ve never been to Israel and only know about local customs secondhand. Please give me some advice. My question is this: it’s likely I’ll be in Jerusalem on Saturday. People who know the place say that’s a bad time to visit a great city. Like, you supposedly can’t even buy a drink on the street, won’t find a taxi, won’t get a proper meal, and so on. I find that hard to believe. After all, the city has Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim quarters. Surely Shabbat can’t shut down everything everywhere. Will Saturday interfere with sightseeing? Will men in fox-fur hats throw stones at me for trying to buy a city map? Will I be forced to donate blood in the interests of Israeli cuisine? Please advise. Thanks in advance
