We arrived in San Francisco yesterday from South Lake Tahoe. Everyone had been warning us that it’s awful in winter. Icy wind, fog, fear and loathing. Nothing of the sort. +10°C, bright sunshine. That famous description of San Francisco also turned out to be wrong. The city is simply wonderful. For some reason, everyone calls it "the most un-American city in America." I don’t know — to me it feels thoroughly American. The best one I’ve seen. All the advantages of New York and none of the drawbacks. Cool hilly streets (in Vladivostok, a Russian Pacific port city, they have the same kind?). Now if only they could bring in the beaches from Los Angeles. Hi everyone, we’re off to have breakfast and ride the cable car.
