The New Times magazine, and Barabanchansky in particular, along with Nikita Aronov, whom I don’t know, should of course be congratulated on this high-profile publication. The OMON riot police officers filing the lawsuit are something else. For the next six months, we’ll be discussing whether they protect prostitutes, guard thieves-in-law (high-ranking figures in the Russian criminal underworld), and break pensioners’ arms. Of course, we already know that they do protect, guard, and break. But the very chance to hear them argue about it in a courtroom is a kind of celebration.
