No, I haven’t suddenly been swept up in unexpected popularity. What swept in were United Russia bots. It’s all because of the post "United Russia Is the Party of Crooks and Thieves". There’s a poll there that 40,000 people took part in, and 96% of them said, "Yes — United Russia is the party of crooks and thieves." There are also more than 9,000 comments there (real ones, not bot-generated), where people say what they think about the party of crooks and thieves. Obviously, the crooks from United Russia don’t like that, so they deployed their Terrible Secret Weapon. It looks like this:
It looks like they’ve already left more than 120,000 comments like that. Representatives of SUP, the company that runs LiveJournal, wrote to me saying they’re aware of the problem and are working on it. Sooner or later, all the bot accounts will be frozen. I’m not even going to waste time banning them. I turned off email notifications for comments a long time ago, so they can leave a million comments for all I care — it doesn’t bother me. Sure, the comments section has turned into a trash heap, but I can put up with that for a couple of days. In a way, I’m even glad about this bot attack — it perfectly confirms the point that "United Russia is the party of crooks and thieves." Because this is 100% how it happened: the crooks in the presidential administration took money (about $1.5 million) to create some kind of "high-tech counteroffensive internet system for resisting Orange Revolutions" (a reference to post-Soviet pro-democracy protest movements) naturally, they stole the money they hired two programmers for 100,000 rubles (about 1,000 USD) who wrote them a script and registered 3,000 bots now they’re writing a report about a "successful internet operation to counter the creation of a negative image of the United Russia party on the internet" and asking for more money. I suggest we keep spreading the maxim "United Russia is the party of crooks and thieves" wherever possible. That will be the best possible response to them. Update.
