If you noticed, the comments on my posts have started looking like actual comments on posts again. Two days ago, it was absolute hell and trash. I already wrote that the Party of Crooks and Thieves used its secret weapon against me — thousands of spam bots flooding the comments with all sorts of nonsense. Together, we managed to solve the problem. At first, several volunteers sent me lists of bots to block several times a day, and I was banning them by the thousands. SUP also got involved, identifying and suspending bot accounts. Then some friendly programmer whizzes created special scripts to find and ban the bots. So the United Russia bots will obviously keep earning their budget money, but now they’re being removed automatically. Huge thanks to everyone who helped — you saved me. Special thanks to Andrei Chergik (user i**ntervoice **) — he created a dedicated final module for finding bots, banning them, and deleting comments. As a result, we deleted several tens of thousands of comments and several thousand bots. Many people know Andrei as the author of the "Gefot Yiksnantubal" bot for Odnoklassniki.ru (a Russian social network), and as the creator of the auto.mail.ru project (2009 edition). He now works for Russia’s largest news media agency (which one, we won’t say). What amazed me was his patience. You should have seen him instructing me over Skype on how to launch a module written in PERL (I don’t know what that is), while I was being a complete lamer: "Now press the up arrow and type this. No, the up arrow. No, not that arrow. Okaaay, let’s calm down, don’t panic, and together we’ll find the arrow."
