23.06.2011 14:32: The Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation proposes banning discussion in the press of the possible breakup of the country* In addition, members of the Chamber believe that statements by public or government figures about the need for Russia’s breakup, or for certain regions to secede from it, should be treated as high treason. These recommendations are contained in a document obtained by Echo of Moscow (a Russian radio station). They were adopted after the Chamber discussed the problems of Russia’s divided peoples and issues of cross-border cooperation between Russian state authorities and neighboring regions.* So, for example, all participants in the "Stop Feeding the Caucasus" rally would be considered traitors to the state. This is getting into the realm of absurd jokes. Pursuing a Caucasus policy that leads to the country’s breakup is apparently allowed. But saying that "the Caucasus policy pursued by the Kremlin will, in the near future, lead to the secession of the Caucasian republics from Russia" is no longer allowed. That is treason. I would like to see a full list of the members of the Civic Chamber putting forward such initiatives.
