I’m sitting on a beach in Spain, minding my own business, alternating between thoughts about the tragedy of Russian liberalism and what cold drink to have, when suddenly the text messages start pouring in: please comment on the lawsuit filed against you by United Russia deputy Morozov for the protection of honor and dignity. By the time I managed to get online (and in Spain the internet seems to be on a permanent siesta), it turned out that Deputy Morozov had not filed any lawsuit at all and had already found time to accuse me of forging his signature and suing myself: *Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Oleg Morozov did not sue blogger Alexei Navalny and did not seek to recover 10 million rubles (about 100,000 USD at the time) in moral damages from him. The official himself told journalists this. According to him, the statement of claim was forged. The document is a complete lie and an absolute fake, Morozov said, stressing that he had not gone to court and had no plans to do so. Moreover, the deputy speaker and United Russia member believes that Navalny himself invented this whole lawsuit story and personally wrote and sent the claim to the Lyublinsky District Court. *echo.msk.ru/news/803377-echo.html What can I say? This is the first I’ve heard of it. I haven’t received any summons, and I haven’t seen the lawsuit. But it was clearly written by some cheerful character: The claim says: “This information caused me moral harm, because I am a prominent statesman, a class ‘A’ state official, have repeatedly received state awards, and have never once stained my name in any murky affair”. In general, people regularly file statements with the police and prosecutor’s office in my name. The latest was the Lurkmore story. But a court lawsuit—that’s a first. If it weren’t so hot here, I might even have had the idea of filing a lawsuit against Oleg Morozov for protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation, on the grounds that he thinks I wrote his lawsuit for protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation. But it is hot here, so instead I’ll just once again give the link to the post that started this whole story.
And everywhere, I’m the speaker! P.S. So I don’t have to get up twice and persuade the Spanish internet to interrupt its siesta: In the LiveJournal top posts, some idiotic Nashi activists (pro-Kremlin youth movement members) pushed posts about how someone was asking, for money, to promote an iPhone app for RosYama. I’ve already said that anyone who wants can make an iPhone/Android app for the project; there are already several of them. The specific one in question was made by Pravo.ru; we have nothing to do with it, which I also wrote about on Twitter a couple of months ago. Our own original iPhone app for RosYama is almost ready, and I’ll present it as soon as I get back from vacation. It will be wonderful, and it won’t need any advertising. Wait a week. Update. Kommersant, as usual, is killing it with the photos. Where do they even find them?
