Source: http://drugoi.livejournal.com/3617696.html The situation with Bagirov is, of course, absolute lawlessness. He has been arrested in Moldova on some very strange charges. OK, if the Moldovans have complaints against Bagirov, let them investigate. A travel ban or, at most, house arrest would have been entirely sufficient. Let him be released under the embassy’s guarantee and stay confined there. But he has already been sitting in a cell for the fourth month, and he has not even been formally charged. And although the Russian Foreign Ministry is dealing with the issue, the effort is clearly insufficient. This is exactly the kind of case where our ever-present Onishchenko (Gennady Onishchenko, a Russian official known for politically charged import bans) ought to show up and suddenly discover terrible herbicides in Moldovan fruit, poisonous grasshoppers in the wine, and ladybugs in all other export goods. If the Moldovans do not understand any other way, then that is exactly how it should be handled. Update: Once again: Bagirov’s writings and his political views do not matter in the slightest. In this situation, he is a Russian citizen being held in custody in another country without sufficient grounds. Either we protect all our citizens, or we will not be able to protect anyone.
