Fighting for your rights is easy and uplifting. And it is not frightening at all. Don’t believe the nonsense about inevitable unrest, clashes with the police, and burning cars. The only weapon we need—and the most powerful one—is something every one of us already has: our sense of dignity. You simply have to understand that this is not something you can put on and take off like a velvet jacket. It is not switched on with a button in the kitchen among friends and then switched off in embarrassment when speaking to an official, a police officer, or a member of an election commission. There are people with a sense of dignity. There are many of them. Dozens of them are lying on torn mattresses right next to me right now. And I know that thousands of them are standing right now on Revolution Square and Bolotnaya Square in Moscow, and in other cities across the country. There are no mass reprisals, no truncheons. No detentions, no 15-day arrests. All of that is nonsense. You cannot beat and arrest hundreds of thousands, let alone millions. They did not even truly frighten us—they merely convinced us for a time that the life of toads and rats, the life of mute cattle, was the only way to earn stability and economic growth as a reward. The spell is lifting, and we can see that this beastly silence has benefited only a small clique of crooks and thieves who became billionaires. That clique and its media servants keep trying to convince us that falsifying votes in favor of their party of crooks and thieves is a necessary condition for having hot water in the tap and affordable mortgage loans. They fed us this for 12 years. We have had enough. The time has come to shake off our paralysis. We are not cattle and we are not slaves. We have a voice, and we have the strength to defend it. All people with a sense of dignity must feel their solidarity with one another. It does not matter where they are now: in the squares, in their kitchens, or in special detention centers. We feel our solidarity with you, and we know that we will win. It simply cannot be otherwise. We say to you: One for all, and all for one!
