The weekend is over. On Saturday I was at the march/rally in St. Petersburg.
It all turned out really great, both in terms of turnout and the mood. I learned a new chant. St. Petersburg was, of course, very much St. Petersburg. After every speech, the crowd chants "WELL DONE!" at the speaker. In my speech I wanted to say that I know who can defeat Putin — "you, you, and you" — while pointing at the people gathered there. from here The Garden Ring was closed into a full circle, and in some places people were standing two deep. We went to the bridge over the Yauza, thinking that would be a critical spot (far from the metro), and that it needed, so to speak, reinforcements. At 1:50 p.m. we were standing there proud but disappointed: from Taganskaya to Kurskaya there were only small groups of people. It seemed like that was it — there was no way we'd close the ring. By 2:15 p.m. it was already crowded. At 2:30 p.m. people in passing cars (every other one was honking and waving) were shouting, "We did it, we closed it!"
