Citizens decided to hold a picket. For the entirely understandable purpose of "demanding a fair investigation into the death of Sergei Magnitsky and that those responsible be held accountable." Are these lawful demands? They are. Reasonable? Yes. The whole country, including the Presidential Council for Human Rights, is demanding exactly the same thing. And here is what the Moscow City Hall has to say about it.
It turns out that "the demand for a fair investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable" does not comply with the provisions of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. Pickets making such demands are prohibited.
What a fine new mayor Moscow has. Stealing 5.4 billion rubles, jailing a witness, and having him killed in prison is allowed. But demanding an investigation is not. The Constitution does not permit it. If you doubt the objectivity of the investigation, you are breaking the law. No one has ever defended the untouchables so elegantly.
