Former Alfa Group top executive Vladimir Ashurkov told Forbes in an interview about leaving the company for political reasons, his friendship with Alexei Navalny, and opposition-minded sentiment within Russia’s business elite Until early 2012, Vladimir Ashurkov oversaw asset management control issues at Alfa Group. He left the company at Mikhail Fridman’s insistence. The chairman of Alfa’s supervisory board felt that the manager had become excessively absorbed in politics: for several years, he had actively supported Alexei Navalny’s projects. Ashurkov is now the executive director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, where the founder of RosPil (Navalny’s anti-corruption crowdsourcing project) is preparing to consolidate all of his main initiatives.
