Mikhail Kosenko is 38 years old.
He was detained on June 8, 2012, and has remained in custody ever since. Mikhail has a Category II disability status. During his military service, he suffered a concussion, and as a result, at just 38 he is already receiving a disability pension. But Kosenko’s health is of no interest to the judge—after all, he is not Vasilyeva from the Serdyukov scandal (a reference to Yevgenia Vasilyeva, whose treatment by the courts became a symbol of double standards). He is truly dangerous.
Mikhail is charged under two articles: Article 212, Part 2 (participation in mass riots) and Article 318, Part 2 (use of violence dangerous to life or health against a government official). Together, these charges carry a sentence of more than ten years in prison. The criminal case contains no other “evidence” of his guilt apart from the testimony of a law enforcement officer and a video recording in which Mikhail is simply standing in the crowd without doing anything. Importantly, in his initial report, the “injured” police officer Kazmin stated that he did not see at all who struck him. Mikhail is being denied the medication he needs. There are many cockroaches in his cell. He was also refused permission to set cockroach traps. Musician Yevgeny Khavtan speaks about Mikhail Kosenko:
