Yesterday I didn’t have time to write about the meetings with voters that I held on August 5. 14:00 We started at Brateyevo metro station, which for some reason was renamed "Alma-Atinskaya" (as if they couldn’t have given that name to a new station instead of renaming one that had already been built). On that issue, by the way, residents collected thousands of signatures, and local deputies—even pro-government ones—submitted appeals, but the people in the ivory tower at 13 Tverskaya Street (the Moscow mayor’s office) didn’t hear a thing.
At 16:00 I spoke near Borisovo metro station. That’s also part of the Brateyevo area—my neighbors in the city.
At 18:00, Shipilovskaya Street. Near the Perekrestok supermarket—the very one that became tragically notorious because of police officer Yevsyukov’s shooting spree (back then the store was called "Ostrov"). This was the first meeting that, from the first minute to the last, took place not just in the rain but in a wild downpour, with thunder and lightning. At one point the equipment died because of the rain, and I had to just shout over the storm. In short, it was a lot of fun. I’m very grateful to everyone who got soaked through but still listened and even asked questions. And they say people aren’t interested in elections and politics. These were all local residents.
It was a good thing we had umbrellas with us. There’s an amusing story about them, by the way. A campaign volunteer went to a wholesale supplier to buy 30 umbrellas. When they found out what we needed the umbrellas for, they gave us 60 for free. That’s how we’ll win!
We already have more than 30 people in the group that prepares these kinds of meetings. But we still need more help: notifying people at each location a couple of days in advance, notifying them right before the meeting, helping out at the meeting itself, and so on.
