Charity event in support of the “Bolotnaya Square prisoners” (people prosecuted over the Bolotnaya Square protest). Moscow, Mir Cinema and Concert Hall, September 22, 6:00 PM
Hardly anyone hasn’t heard of the “Bolotnaya case.” Since the first arrests in May of last year, the public has been trying to help those caught under the enormous pressure of the police system. The issue is simple: the families of those arrested need help, at the very least, with the overwhelming costs of the trial and legal fees. Several charity events have already been held in support of the defendants. The participation of Liya Akhedzhakova, Dmitry Bykov, Alexander Filippenko, Sergei Yursky, Lev Rubinstein, Maxim Sukhanov, Polina Osetinskaya, Alexei Kortnev, and many others has been invaluable and deeply important. Now rock musicians have decided to support the “Bolotnaya prisoners,” following an appeal from the civic organization “RosUznik” (a support group for detainees and political prisoners). At the charity concert “#ROCK-PRISONER,” to be held on September 22 at the Mir Cinema and Concert Hall, the performers will include ANDREI MAKAREVICH (Mashina Vremeni / Time Machine), EVGENY KHAVTAN (Bravo), ROMAN SUSLOV (Vezhlivy Otkaz / Polite Refusal), NOIZE MC, the band ZORGE, and the band KIRA LAO. Previous events of this kind were supported by Sergei Popov (Alibi), Vasily Shumov (Tsentr / Center), Alexei Kortnev (Neschastny Sluchai / Accident), and the band Arkady Kots — this time they have been invited to the concert as audience members. DIANA ARBENINA (Night Snipers), unfortunately, will not be able to be in Moscow that day, but she has recorded a video message for the Novaya Gazeta website; the concert is being held with the newspaper’s participation and support. This is not a symbolic gesture, but a very concrete goal: to raise one million rubles for legal defense. And you’ll get to hear some great music, too.
