This morning on NTV (a Russian TV channel), I watched a report that left me completely shocked: In Krasnodar Krai (a region in southern Russia), just before New Year’s, a two-month-old baby girl came down with whooping cough. Whooping cough is a common childhood infectious disease. Nothing especially alarming. They took her to an infectious diseases hospital. They took her away there. After that, they kept the parents from seeing her for a long time. Supposedly, it wasn’t allowed. And then, two weeks later, it turned out that because of a medical error, this two-month-old baby girl had HER ARM AMPUTATED ALONG WITH THE SHOULDER JOINT. **Most likely (this was suggested in the report), the doctors, as usual, got drunk before New Year’s and couldn’t give the injection properly or something like that. Instead of a vein, they hit an artery. They didn’t notice, and so on. New Year’s, in short. The doctors have of course been suspended from work. It’s hard even to imagine what the parents must be feeling. God forbid. But if I were the father, I’d probably have literally killed everyone, starting with the chief physician.
