The State Duma refused to launch a parliamentary investigation into the activities of former Defense Minister Serdyukov. Well, not the State Duma as such, really, but United Russia. All the other parties wanted to initiate such an investigation and collected 103 signatures (90 are required) to start the procedure.
There is nothing surprising about this. It is obvious why they do not want this investigation: unpleasant facts would immediately come to light, facts they would very much like to forget—how Putin pushed the son-in-law of his friend Zubkov up the career ladder; how they were rigging things back when they were in the tax service; how everyone knew everything but covered it up, and so on. But the fact itself is noteworthy and should be remembered. Every time the thieves from "UR" (United Russia) say anything about fighting corruption, both they and the voters should be reminded: shut up, crooks. Your party blocked a parliamentary investigation into Serdyukov’s activities. Given that every pensioner in the country knows about the "Serdyukov case," this will be an excellent campaigning point.
