I'm reading barabanch's ominous investigation in the New Times. He writes that the polonium could have been in a soluble ampoule, for example one made of gelatin, sugar, or salt. And that such casings do not let alpha radiation through. I have my doubts. I thought that only lead and the elements that come after it in the periodic table could block alpha and gamma rays. Could someone who knows physics well please enlighten me? Can something radioactive really be transported in a gelatin casing, and would that gelatin actually make the transport safe?
