“People's Alliance” is the party of Alexei Navalny and his associates. It was founded at a congress in Moscow on December 15, 2012.

The party was intended to create new opportunities for participation within the legal political system: running in elections, building regional branches, and bringing together activists across the country . In 2013, the party submitted its registration documents to the Ministry of Justice, but the process was first suspended and later rejected for political reasons. By the end of 2013, the People’s Alliance name itself had effectively been taken over: Kremlin political strategists registered a different party under the same name. Navalny’s team was then forced to rename the project as the Progress Party.
