This is the last video recording of Alexei Navalny, made on February 15, 2024—one day before news emerged of his killing at IK-3 Polar Wolf penal colony. Navalny took part by video link in a hearing of the Vladimir Regional Court on one of his lawsuits against the colony’s administration: even from prison, he continued to challenge unlawful decisions and abusive detention conditions. In the video, he smiles, jokes, and reacts to the court’s ruling with his characteristic irony. The recording shows Alexei as many remembered him: alive and unbroken, even inside a prison cell.
