Встречая Дмитрия Борисовича Зимина на каких-то мероприятиях, я постоянно думал: ну и человек. Если б я не знал, что он реально есть, то подумал бы, что это выдуманный пример для подражания. Каким надо быть предпринимателю и гражданину. И биографию такую же придумали - образцовую

Занимался наукой в СССР, внес огромный вклад в развитие радиолокационных систем. Когда СССР развалился, использовал свои знания, чтобы создать первую компанию мобильной связи.

Доказал, что советский интеллигент может быть и крупнейшим предпринимателем: его «Вымпелком» - первая российская компания, разместившаяся на нью-йоркской бирже. Стал очень богатым, но деньги тратил на благотворительность и поддержку науки.

Попал в опалу, но внутренней свободе не изменил. Говорил, что хотел. Делал то, что считал правильным. Всегда верен себе, всегда полезен обществу. Да вот даже половину хороших книг, что я прочитал за последние годы, издал фонд Зимина.

И вот образца для подражания не стало. Не встретишь и руку не пожмешь. Ну, будем помнить. И стараться хоть в чем-то подражать. Семье и близким - искренние соболезнования.
