Hi, this is Navalny. I'm marking an anniversary: 6

0:04

years have already passed since the moment I

0:06

started

0:07

trying to register a party, and here in my hands

0:09

is yet another reply from the Ministry of Justice.

0:11

I'll turn it over, and together we'll find out

0:14

whether it is allowed in Russia to register

0:16

a genuine opposition political party.

0:19

But maybe there is some example for us

0:22

to follow—though overall this has been anything but simple.

0:24

The story is this: 6 years ago our party

0:26

was called People's Alliance, and we

0:28

were denied registration. They said parties

0:31

are only for Putin, Zyuganov,

0:33

Zhirinovsky, and Yavlinsky. But the name

0:36

People's Alliance

0:37

was becoming popular, so they stole it from us

0:39

by renaming one of

0:41

the Kremlin's parties that way.

0:43

Then our party was called the Party

0:45

of Progress. We demanded registration

0:48

and the right to take part in elections. We were refused, because

0:51

parties are only for Putin, Zyuganov,

0:53

Zhirinovsky, and Yavlinsky. Soon

0:55

the name Party of Progress also began

0:57

to become popular, and that too was stolen from us

0:59

as well,

1:00

by renaming one of

1:03

the Kremlin's parties the Party of Progress. Now our party

1:06

is called Russia of the Future, and for the eighth time we

1:11

have held all the congresses and conferences and

1:14

yet again been denied registration. Parties, once again,

1:24

are allowed only for Putin,

1:25

Zyuganov, Yavlinsky, Zhirinovsky, and now also

1:28

now, apparently,

1:29

Sobchak. It's obvious why they refuse us.

1:33

Because you and I would go to elections and

1:35

defeat United Russia, get into the State Duma (the lower house of parliament),

1:39

create commissions for parliamentary

1:41

investigations into corruption, and start repealing

1:43

laws that make people's lives harder. Putin doesn't want

1:47

that.

1:47

And that's why he won't let me onto the ballot and

1:50

keeps our party from being registered. But

1:53

the main thing is that this hypocritical

1:56

little man also constantly squeals that

1:58

we supposedly don't offer a constructive agenda

2:01

and only hold rallies. But I believe

2:05

that we can have dialogue, especially with

2:08

presidential-level repression like this.

2:09

Some suggest

2:12

a constructive approach, even

2:15

one of a critical nature.

2:16

But what else is left for us to do? The media

2:19

are closed, there is no party, there are no elections, the entire

2:22

political system is frozen.

2:24

And for 20 years now, for twenty years, nothing

2:27

has happened there. There are no new parties,

2:30

no normal politicians who

2:32

would represent the people rather than themselves.

2:35

So of course the truth is that right now

2:38

the only thing that can be done is

2:40

mass protests.

2:42

Putin himself has cut off all the other ways

2:45

to influence the authorities. If you and I had

2:48

a party,

2:49

we would have blocked the increase

2:52

in the retirement age in the Duma, as happens

2:54

in normal countries. But in the Duma there sit

2:56

nothing but obedient dummies, so we

2:59

will block the increase in the retirement

3:01

age by taking to the streets and organizing

3:04

protests across the country on September 9,

3:07

and afterward as well. They may ban our

3:11

party, but Putin will not succeed in stripping us of the right

3:14

to express our opinion.
