Once again, the main point from the long post about the elections: the time of simple strategies is over. Every election, at every level, requires its own approach: in some places, a boycott; in others, voting; in some, voting for a party list; in others, for an individual candidate.
If the Saint Petersburg governor “election” is an obvious sham, then the local council elections taking place at the same time are a real contest. Yes, around 1,500 (!!!) independent candidates were illegally barred from running. That includes the head of the Saint Petersburg ACF (Anti-Corruption Foundation), who was even reinstated by court order, but was removed again anyway because they are very afraid.
Nevertheless, many strong candidates remain on the ballot. Not just “good people,” but genuinely strong, solid candidates who are capable of winning. And there are even several very strong teams running.
The crooks at Saint Petersburg City Hall understand this and are trying to neutralize independent candidates through early voting. The right response is coordinated voting.
There is a special service: http://www.mo2014.ru/
It is not without errors and technical issues, but overall it works and is useful.
Enter your address and you will get a list of whom you should vote for. You can print the list if you do not feel like memorizing it. You can also share it online.
If you are from Saint Petersburg, use this service and send the link to friends and acquaintances who can vote this Sunday.
