I have just learned from the guys who came to visit me that Boris Nemtsov has been murdered. Honestly, I am so shocked that it is hard even to find the words.
Boris came here to visit me a couple of days ago and, as usual, he was energetic, cheerful, and full of plans. He charmed the police officers, chatted with them merrily, explained why it was in their interest to support the demands of the “Spring” march, and handed out brochures with his report. I cannot even imagine that I will never see him again.
This is a monstrous tragedy and a loss for all of us. Borya was a very good, decent man. A major, genuine politician and a decent human being—this is not something you come across very often. My most sincere condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, and really to everyone—we have truly lost something that cannot be replaced.
I will not say anything about possible explanations, given the obvious lack of information in my situation. I hope I will be given the chance to attend Boris’s farewell ceremony.
