Now this is a truly major achievement for Russia. Our team won the World Championship in competitive programming. Among the top ten, there are five (!!) teams from Russia.
It’s a prestigious championship. They won without doping, without cheating, without bribing the judges, without budget handouts, and without building idiotic stadiums for billions. Well done.
Now let’s take a look at Yandex News and see how the Russian media are covering the intellectual triumph of Russian students.
More than a day has passed. There have been only 77 publications in total, mostly from regional media outlets noting the success of their local universities. Among the major ones: RBC, Gazeta.ru, TV Rain, and Meduza. Among the “patriotic” outlets: RIA Novosti.
Nothing at all on TV.
For comparison, the story “Maria Zakharova danced the Kalinka-Malinka” got 167 publications. All the biggest media outlets covered it.
What the hell is this? We don’t respect ourselves. What’s the point of shouting that foreigners belittle our victories when we ourselves don’t just downplay them—we don’t even notice them.
