Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, as part of a consortium, bought a 19% stake in Rosneft.
In Russia’s largest state-owned company. State-owned.
That fund, the Qatar Investment Authority, is effectively part of the Qatari government.
Its stated goal is to generate long-term returns for the State of Qatar for the benefit of future generations.
So in a certain sense, Rosneft will now also be working to generate income for the Qatari state.
And this is Mikhail Leontyev, the great geopolitical thinker, state propagandist, Rosneft press secretary and vice president (and also, simply, an alcoholic).
Now he goes around talking about what a great deal Rosneft made and how happy he is to be working with their Qatari friends. Not even friends, in fact—brothers.
And not long ago, Mikhail Leontyev spoke rather differently about these Qatari brothers: degenerates, puppets, and sponsors of terrorism:
And in general, if you search for “Mikhail Leontyev Qatar,” a lot of amusing things come up.
Now I don’t even know what to think. Who exactly did we sell Rosneft—our own flesh and blood—to? Degenerates, sponsors of terrorism, puppets of Shell and the Pentagon, or our new brothers, whom we found after turning away from the West toward the East?
