One of the main intimidation tactics behind the message “don’t go to rallies” is heavy fines.
United Russia and Putin pushed these laws through, and now the propaganda machine is going all out: you idiot, you’ll go, and then they’ll slap you with a fine of about 20,000 rubles. Your Navalny isn’t going to pay it for you.
Navalny really can’t pay for everyone, but this is a typical example of how “one for all and all for one” can work. The burden of these fines is easy to share, and for each of us it will come to a small, affordable amount.
After the March 26 rallies, more than 750 people came to us for help. All of them received legal assistance from our tireless lawyers, and most have already gone through the appeals process for the rulings issued against them. That means we can now prepare and file complaints with the ECHR (European Court of Human Rights). This work is also actively underway.
But it also means that the time has come to pay the fines. Back during my first arrest, ACF announced that it was opening a special Yandex.Money wallet in the name of the Foundation’s director, Roman Rubanov, to help those who were fined: 410011790053534.
That single post brought in 667,092 rubles. Thank you all very much.
With the money raised, we have already paid fines for 46 activists totaling 507,000 rubles. We need to keep going. Another 110 people already have their reimbursement paperwork ready, and there will be more.
Right now, about 1.2 million rubles are needed to cover the payments. It will be more: some people still have not completed their appeals and have not yet been able to apply to us for compensation. The total amount could reach 4 million rubles.
For one person, 15,000–20,000 rubles is a lot. For all of us together, it’s just a matter of chipping in 50–100 rubles each and raising enough to cover everyone’s fines. Let’s do exactly that.
The Yandex.Money wallet is the same: 410011790053534.
Many thanks in advance to everyone who takes part.
