Today, Vladimir Putin made a statement about “softening” the increase in the retirement age. In the Kremlin’s telling, everyone is now supposed to rejoice at the wisdom of the tsar, who stepped in and supposedly prevented this predatory pension reform from going through.
Don’t rush to celebrate—we’ll explain why right now:
In reality, after a long silence, Putin today endorsed this robbery. He has signed off on the elimination of one of the basic social guarantees that survived the hardest decades and endured from Stalin to Yeltsin.
Don’t fall for the lie that he somehow “softened” anything—the increase in the retirement age will be very harsh.
And if you oppose it, be sure to join the protest against raising the retirement age, which will take place across Russia on September 9.
