I adopted the finest investigative techniques from Russia’s Investigative Committee. I tested the pixel-peeping-through-a-magnifying-glass method on a photo of Bastrykin’s wife. Her name is Olga Alexandrova, and she is also a state official—the rector of the All-Russian State University of Justice (which trains personnel for the Investigative Committee). A laboratory experiment showed that if you enlarge a photo of Bastrykin’s spouse with a magnifying glass, you can make out an Audemars Piguet Millenary Starlit Sky Night Theme watch on her wrist, priced at 3 to 3.7 million rubles (roughly $33,000–$41,000, depending on the exchange rate and date of purchase). On the dial, you can see a starry night sky, the Milky Way, and some 112 diamonds. Of course, one could have just pressed Ctrl+, but with a magnifying glass, you have to admit, it’s much more elegant.
