Bereza is getting really tiresome with all this talk about "funding." But The Other Russia is also behaving rather sluggishly in this situation. There are two options: either they should admit the funding, or they should go to court (in London, if DR does not trust a Russian court). The NAROD movement adopted the following statement-addressed to The Other Russia: ** STATEMENT **“NAROD AGAINST BEREZOVSKY.” The disgraced oligarch Boris Berezovsky, who was granted political asylum in the United Kingdom, continues his efforts to discredit the Russian opposition. As before, Berezovsky continues to claim that he allegedly finances The Other Russia and/or the organizations that are part of it. We have never considered, and do not consider, Mr. Berezovsky an opposition figure. His disagreements with today’s Russian authorities are neither political nor ideological. Boris Berezovsky was one of the architects of the criminal privatization of the 1990s and of the “Putin-2000” special operation (a reference to Putin’s rise to power). Later, he fell out with his longtime partners Vladimir Putin and Roman Abramovich over large sums of money and the levers of незаконного influence over state affairs, but this had and has nothing to do with the opposition. In order to obtain political asylum in the United Kingdom, he merely imitated opposition activity, in effect discrediting genuine opposition figures through his statements and pseudo-efforts. Today Berezovsky is trying to smear The Other Russia and other opposition movements. It is no longer possible to ignore such actions. It is necessary to bring Mr. Berezovsky to court where he currently resides—in the city of London—and prove that this man is lying. It must not be allowed that Berezovsky continue to serve as a tool for discrediting those people and political forces who are today fighting in Russia for freedom, justice, and national revival. The founders and participants of the NAROD movement are ready to take part in preparing the lawsuit and in the court proceedings against Boris Berezovsky.
