I’m on a train. Sitting in my compartment, messing around on my laptop while I still have a signal. Fifteen minutes out of Kirov by train, and instead of mobile service and internet, it’s squirrels, martens, and wild ground beetles. The door’s open—it’s hot. And every single person. Every single one who walks by peeks into the compartment and stares at me. It’s annoying, but I do exactly the same thing myself. I walk down the carriage and look into every compartment with an open door. No privacy at all. Putin’s really done a number on this country...
