For the second time this year, Outlook has crashed. Exactly the same as last time: "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window." None of the advice helped that time. I had to wipe it and reinstall it.
This time I didn’t even bother trying. I said to hell with it and installed The Bat. I should have done that earlier, like everyone had been telling me, idiot that I am. Nothing happened to the emails—they’re stored on Gmail’s servers. But losing the address book is a big deal. Well, the address book itself survived, and The Bat imported it, but I had everything neatly and lovingly sorted: these are VTB shareholders these are Gazprom shareholders these are Rosneft shareholders these are the people who file complaints together with me these are people who aren’t shareholders but are willing to help and so on. Each group had its own mailing lists. I sank a huge amount of time into that. And there it goes, everything acquired through backbreaking labor.... Now all the emails are in one big pile; there’s no way to tell who I replied to and who I didn’t. So if you wrote to me and I haven’t replied for more than a week, please write again. The funniest part is that all the software on the laptop is properly licensed. Every last bit of it. And it’s still no use—it’s buggy anyway. It’s hard not to laugh when people talk about some SkyNet system emerging, linking up computers, seizing power, and starting a nuclear war. This Skynet would throw up some "error number whatever" after thirty seconds, and it would take forty bespectacled nerds to get it running again—after which it would promptly break down all over again.
