If anyone remembers, some time ago the police told me they had "lost" the case on Transneft’s "charitable activities," which they had been dragging out for almost two years. We successfully beat them on this point in court, but decided not to stop there and to seek punishment for the officer who resorts to such simple and effective tactics as, "sorry, your case got lost." So we started firing off complaints.
Is that supposed to be normal? They cannot be subjected to disciplinary action because the statute of limitations has expired. Fantastic. So you can just take money from crooks, "lose" any file you like, and nothing happens. Because the deadline has expired. So why don’t they just "lose" the Yukos case (the major Russian oil company prosecution case) too? We’ll obviously look into what kind of deadlines these are, and why the issue of disciplinary liability was raised only after our complaint, rather than when the documents were actually lost. We’ll see what the prosecutor’s office says, but the cops themselves are behaving with absolute arrogance. They could at least have issued a reprimand. This is how people end up becoming the "Primorsky Partisans" (a notorious armed anti-police group from Russia’s Primorye region). Not everyone has the time, desire, resources, and sheer persistence to keep up endless correspondence with people drunk on impunity. People get pushed around for a year or two and come to see shooting at a police car with a hunting rifle as another way of settling scores. P.S.
