*The annual QS World University Rankings have been published. Moscow State University also made the top 100, coming in at 93rd place. The top spot went to the University of Cambridge in the UK. Second place was taken by the American institution Harvard University, which had previously held the number one position. ****Rounding out the top three was another U.S. university — Yale. ***//////// Awesome — Yale rules. Like any newly minted Yale patriot, I’m not so much happy that we’re in third place as I am outraged that Harvard is in second. Boooo, Harvard. You can see the ranking itself here. MSU’s 93rd place is, of course, a sad fact. You should spend less time getting carried away with property development projects in partnership with Inteko, Comrade Sadovnichy. Sure, you only live once, you’ve got lots of grandkids, and there won’t be another chance to make money — but you should, like, spare a thought for your institution too. To those ready to say right away that all these rankings are garbage, I recommend taking a look at the methodology (it’s on the same site). Overall, it’s transparent and easy to understand. A high position in the ranking is a great excuse for me to post short notes about my Yale life and about how things work here in general. I’ll start tomorrow.
