The Chechen leader was outraged that what he considered an everyday conflict—the shooting and stabbing on June 5 near Kiyevsky Rail Terminal—is being elevated "to the level of an event of national importance," and that Chechens are being blamed for what happened before the investigation is complete. At the end of last week, a meeting was held at the Maimonides GKA attended by members of the legal community, Chechnya’s education minister, and the official representative of the head of Chechnya. Mamin Satuev, the lawyer for Bekhan Rizvanov, a participant in the fight near the Evropeysky mall, told Izvestia that it had been decided to mount a coordinated defense of the students, who had allegedly been "illegally beaten by OMON and an Investigative Committee officer."
