You’ve probably noticed that my LiveJournal design has changed. If you haven’t, that means you’re not logged in, but it looks something like this:
Yes, yes, yes. The design was done under my close supervision. Yet another way to assess my design/creative potential. Sadly, this is its ceiling. The LiveJournal guys said: whatever you say, we’ll draw it that way. So I gave them fairly detailed instructions. It seemed to me that it ought to be kind of cool. I agree that it came out looking like "the little LiveJournal of an overinflated United Russia party member from the provinces". It’s funny — I’m always wondering why these idiots plaster photos of themselves in suits and ties everywhere. And in the end, I picked a photo of myself in a suit and tie too. Cultural coding, I guess. One of the most tactful people on LiveJournal — tema — even did a short review of the new design. In his characteristically subtle manner. I think I’ll put it under the cut:
After reading that review and the responses on Twitter, I realized that the photo — and the whole suit-and-tie image in general — was a complete failure. After discussing it, we decided that what we need is a genuinely man-of-the-people image. So the new LiveJournal design will most likely look like this:
