My entire friends feed is about Saddam. Mostly everyone is outraged. I’m outraged too, of course—as an opponent of the death penalty—but not all that much. It’s amazing how many people, for some reason, think Saddam Hussein was a friend and ally of Russia. What’s especially striking is that even people who present themselves as “Russian patriots” are beside themselves because SH was executed during Kurban Bayram (Eid al-Adha) (or whatever holiday it is right now). Unbelievable. Somewhere—I think in ru_politics—there was even a heart-rending post saying, “let all the shahids (martyrs) bring their vengeance down on America, and let’s go to the Iraqi embassy to express our solidarity.” Bastards. So you like shahids now. Go on then—if it means sticking it to the Americans, start shouting too that “Palestine is Arab land” and “Allah is great.” SH is an enemy. An enemy of Russia. An enemy of our civilization. And it’s right that he was executed on an Islamic holiday. These half-ragged bums need to be shown that European civilization is ready to crush any monster that tries to threaten it. Especially since the ambitions of such monsters are based on nothing more than some black liquid flowing under their soil.
