Everything is going well, thank you very much. So far, 543 people have registered as participants in the first "People’s Deputy" initiative group. Our target was 500 to 1,000 people, so we’ve already met the minimum goal. A reminder: you can register here: http://deputat.fbk.info/ We’ve also made some nice visual diagrams explaining what "People’s Deputy" is for those who can’t be bothered to read:

And here is a diagram showing what exactly those people in the initiative group will do:

All of this is tremendously important for Muscovites: they are supporting our first bill, which would force monopoly utility providers to publicly justify housing and коммунальные services tariffs (utility and housing maintenance rates). It is just as important for United Russia and the Moscow city government: if this law is passed, it will become much harder for them to steal through those tariffs. So we should be under no illusion that they will do everything they can to kill our initiative. That is why our meeting will be run with extreme formality, following every procedure spelled out in the law, even the absurd ones. We will keep a continuous video record of the entire process, invite all media outlets to observe (accreditation: teamnavalny.press@gmail.com), and we have already invited representatives of Moscow City Hall and the Moscow City Duma (city parliament). We will check and copy everyone’s passports so that they cannot shut us down either at the stage of registering the initiative group or at the signature-collection stage. Of course, this will make participant registration take quite a lot of time, but we will try to set up more registration desks. By the way, if you cannot take part in the initiative group because you do not have permanent Moscow residency registration or for some other reason, you can still help organize the meeting as a volunteer. Everyone who has registered will receive an email/text message with instructions, but just in case, here are the details of the initiative group meeting: Meeting date: 06.10.2013 (Sunday) Start time: 15:00 Venue: Flacon Design Factory, Flacon Loft space Address: 36 Bolshaya Novodmitrovskaya St., Building 2 Please bring: passport (required), passport photocopy (preferred) If you’ve decided to join after reading this post, don’t forget to register so as not to create chaos on site. This is something new—no one has ever done anything like this before—but if it works, everything will be much easier from then on. I really love this project: first, it is exactly the kind of political activity that is 146% for the public good and genuinely useful to everyone (everyone wants less theft built into utility tariffs); second, it gives us a way to work with large groups of people. That is exactly what we need right now. Join us. P.S. I also want to say that all kinds of good people are constantly coming to the Anti-Corruption Foundation: I want to run for the Moscow City Duma, support me. Well, anyone who wants support must actually work for the benefit of city residents. "People’s Deputy" is one good way of doing that.
