This cross has been hanging in my office since this morning.
Right above my desk. I bought it in Texas about two years ago. Twelve dollars. It’s made from railroad spikes (those huge nails used to fasten rails to railroad ties). I’d been meaning to hang it up for a long time, but while we were at YABLOKO (a Russian liberal political party), it would have been awkward. Too gothic. I have to say, it makes an incredible impression on everyone. People immediately start looking at me warily. And then their eyes dart around the office as if searching for a rack.
