It is curious to watch the widening gap between Russia’s actual actions in international politics and the way they are presented to the domestic audience.

In reality, Russia asked the FBI to help investigate the crash of our plane in Egypt, and the Americans agreed. (I should note that asking for help in such a situation is absolutely the right thing to do.)

But for the domestic audience, the Kremlin says that the Americans are always making deals with terrorists, and that this time they supposedly struck a deal with ISIS (through Qatar!) so they would not be targeted. That, they say, is why only we are being attacked.

The report by the state’s chief propagandist airs two days after Russia appealed to the FBI.

It would be amusing if the letter to the United States requesting cooperation in tracking down the terrorists included Dmitry Kiselyov’s (a prominent Russian state TV propagandist) main talking points: — even though, in your view, terrorists fighting Russia are the "good" ones; — even though you are always making deals with terrorists; — even though your operation has been unsuccessful, still, please help us with the investigation.
