How does your day begin? You probably get up, turn on the lights, open the tap, put the kettle on, make breakfast, then maybe take the elevator down and head to work. At first glance, what does corruption have to do with any of this? If you live in Tomsk, quite a lot. Every time you do these things, you are directly paying United Russia (the ruling pro-Kremlin political party). A real utilities mafia has taken over the city, and all the money you pay for electricity, water, and building maintenance goes straight into the pockets of United Russia deputies. How did this happen? We explain it in the video. The good news is: you can change it. To do that, you need to elect different deputies—ones who will not profit from city residents, but instead keep utility rates under control. And people in Tomsk and many other regions will have that chance on September 13. Elections will be held that day. You need to show up and cast your vote, following the recommendation of Smart Voting (a tactical voting project) (link in the profile description). This is a personal choice for everyone. You can take part and bring down United Russia—or stay home, sit in front of the TV, and then keep paying them more and more every year.
