I can’t exactly Google it, but comments on the post will be sent to me by mail, old-school style, so to speak. So. I’m reading an article (excerpt in the carousel) saying that students here have started being screened for belonging to subcultures, including “Navalny supporters” (supporters of Alexei Navalny, the Russian opposition politician). And there are others on the list that I’ve never even heard of. Here’s the full list: 1. Anime fans. That one’s clear enough. You do remember how I used to do Naruto hand signs, right? 2. AUE. Clear enough too. People are constantly criticizing me for using AUE slang, although whenever I keep asking what AUE actually is and what it stands for, the answer I usually get is, “Armenians will leave for Yerevan.” 3. MKU (Maniacs. Cult of Murder). I know that one — there’s a guy in the neighboring unit doing time for strangling his friend because he wanted to join an ancient Indian cult of stranglers. 4. Military. No idea. I assume that means Shoigu, Gerasimov, and Sheba. 5. Drainers. No idea. 6. Offniks. No idea. 7. Street art. More or less clear. 8. Blue Whale. I know that one. 9. Skinheads. I know that one. 10. Nationalists. Not sure why that counts as a subculture, but okay. 11. F57. No idea, and I’m very intrigued. 12. Emo. Clear enough. 13. Navalny supporters. That’s one I’d like to join, but I don’t know where to submit the application. 14. Goths. Clear. 15. Furries. Never heard of them. 16. Vanillas. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds terribly cute, and I’ve already told my unit commanders (I have two of them), Major Zelentsov and Captain Marchenko, that I’m going to consider them members of the vanilla subculture. I hope the vanilla crowd is decent and that this won’t offend my captain-majors. 17. Feminists. Clear, but again, why is that a subculture? So I only got 11 out of 17, and that’s a failure. Come on, confess — how many did you know, and tell me about F57, the vanillas, and the rest.
